A very warm Society welcome to Matt Bailey! As SMWS Australia Country Director, Matt Bailey, joins us in the UK to start his new role as European Managing Director, we're celebrating his arrival and the good times ahead with the release of an Australian exclusive, Cask No. 39.289: Maple-mustard pulled pork.

This bottling was selected as the third release from Society partner bar, Whisky & Alement in Melbourne, Australia. Jules, Brooke and Lachlan sampled the liquid and immediately knew they had found something special. With just a handful of these bottles available, if you're a sherry lover, you'd best get this one while it lasts!

On the neat nose, an array of rich aromas was detected by the Panel. Just to mention a few, we found nutmeg, toasted almonds, molasses and a selection of cakes — orange, walnut and victoria sponge. On the palate, a plate of comfort food arrived, with maple-mustard pulled pork and crispy bacon served with garlic macaroni and cheese. After reduction, we found chocolate-coated coffee beans, trail mix, rum and raisin ice cream, and an oloroso espresso. The taste was now very relaxed — tobacco, dark chocolate-dipped pears and brown sugar 'n' cinnamon baked apples. Following 13 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead, we transferred this whisky into a first fill Spanish oak oloroso hogshead
