Tasting Notes
The nose gave us a hessian sack full of cloves, Werther’s Original caramel candies and sherry spilled on wood; finding tobacco leaf and tinned spinach we started singing ‘Popeye the sailor man’. The palate was ‘break time’ with black coffee, cinnamon buns, jam tarts and bourbon biscuits; then a dry finish of chewing wood, menthol and balsamic – powerful stuff. The reduced nose was a crofter’s breakfast – treacle scones, black bun, Weetabix and iced gingerbread – followed by a leather tobacco pouch fumble. That slightly masculine sweetness continued on the palate – tinned apricots in syrup, Grand Marnier orange liqueur and Old English spangles.
