Tasting Notes
The nose gave us glacé cherries, rusks and potpourri, then a bourbon hint that led to American-inspired fantasies of corn syrup poured over spicy fried chicken. The palate, whose flavours seemed larger than mere words could catch, encompassed chocolate honeycomb bars, pain au raisin and a jamboree of jams, including apricot and strawberry; the finish found baking spices and orange peel. The reduced nose introduced sherbet lemons and blackcurrant cordial, coconut, stem ginger and Turkish delight. The palate now discovered coconut macaroons and Victoria sponge, flaked almonds and raspberry coulis – the finish a lip-smacking, bittersweet tang like limoncello.
