Tasting Notes

Down at the cricket field, things opened at first nosing with a bouquet of rose petals, peach blossom, and elderflower and meadowsweet liqueur. Fresh tobacco and wood sap took to the crease, before a tail of charred and ashy cedar wood. The palate yielded tempting desserts of passion fruit sorbet, peach juice from the tin and orange pâte de fruits. A light rain shower stopped play fleetingly and liberated more delicately floral gin-like aromas, alongside apricot butter biscuits and lime marmalade. The cricketers then took tea in the pavilion to enjoy gallons of spritzy lemonade, summer ale, wheat beer and gin-based fruit cup. Play drew to a close with a spread of lemon drizzle cake and Victoria sponge on a table strewn with elderflower blossom and more meadowsweet. The Panel declared it was a crowd pleaser – howzat!
