The nose is a summer picnic or tea party in the garden – manicured lawns and flower beds, rich tea biscuits and iced gems, tangerines and an American cream soda ice-cream float – the mood is carefree and mellow. Even at natural strength it is soft and smooth on the palate – porridge with maple syrup, hob-nobs and Demerara crunch biscuits and that sugary, perfumed juiciness of glacé cherries. The reduced nose bursts with sherbet lemons, raspberry sauce on ice-cream (monkey’s blood) and strawberry sweets in the pocket of a Barbour waxed jacket. The palate is now creamy and luscious with smooth caramel and classic vanilla crème anglaise.
