A big and hearty, savoury profile at first nosing. We encountered crushed tea biscuits, toasted brown bread, rice cakes, oatmeal and sweet shilling ales. Also chopped almonds, tree bark and a faint waxiness. Reduction softened things and brought a nicely aromatic petrichor vibe, along with sandalwood, damp ferns, Weetabix drizzled with honey and dried flowers. The neat palate showed a warming and robust peppery note on arrival, then malt extract, bitter ales, barley sugars and orange cocktail bitters. Water brought buttered oatcakes, stodgy fruit scone mix, rolling tobacco and a prickle of mustard powder.
