One of the panellists was reminded of making a scrummy plum and pear sponge pudding with his mother, while others drank a tinto de verano; red wine, lemonade, orange juice and plenty of vermouth. On the palate a fascinating concoction of prunes, dates and figs together with sultanas and golden cane sugar all spiced up with garam masala. With the addition of water, like a glorious sunny Indian summer afternoon and we enjoyed a French foie gras open sandwich served with candied dried orange slices on rye bread. After 12 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead we transferred this whisky into a second fill charred red wine barrique.
