Tasting Notes
We found a wonderfully gentle and elegant nose that presented smoked honey, rock salt and gorgeous layers of delicate, herbal-tinged peat smoke. Beyond that was a dry earthiness, with hints of bandages and medical throat lozenges. With water it became sootier, fatter and erred more towards fire embers, natural tar and intricate aromas of citrus rinds, smoked teas and camphor. The neat palate was full of similarly lovely, soft peat smoke, delivering resinous fruits, crystallised honey and a chunky, emphatic oiliness of texture. Water brought some fresher, fruity touches, along with impressions of gentian eau de vie, classical farmyard vibes and touches of toasted spices, dried herbs and smoked oatmeal. A gorgeous, mature example of this old-school Highlander.
