Tasting Notes
This felt immediately ‘on the edge of your seat stuff’ – like a pulse-pounding thriller, think of Hitchcock (Vertigo, Psycho or Rear Window) or the short stories of Edgar Alan Poe (The cask of Amontillado or Hop-Frog). We drank it and it made our blood run cold like watching a film noir eating creamy dark chocolate mousse with Sichuan peppercorns. After the addition of water, a leathery/waxy side turned up with some sweet resinous exotic wood aromas before, on the palate, we had Moroccan spiced walnuts using ras el hanout while watching the film ‘The Wicker Man’. Following ten years in an ex-bourbon hogshead, we transferred this whisky into a 2nd fill charred red wine barrique.
