The immediate nose was delicate and lovely, with freshly polished wood, custard-filled choux pastries and “flower arranging in the sunshine while baking cakes”. However, there was also salted popcorn, old cognac and something from the humidor. The palate was sweet, juicy, fruity, spicy and rich, had spun sugar and salted caramel, Eccles cakes and fig yoghurt, with lemon peel and coconut in the lingering finish. The reduced nose seemed even more floral – jasmine, meadowsweet and flower shop counters; candied ginger and bananas flambéed with brown sugar and cinnamon. The palate now showcased cherry brandy, Mon Cheri chocolates, marzipan, plum jam and tobacco.
