Cask Intro
At one of only 302 bottles, this cask strength sip is already a rare thing. Then consider the cask type. This Highland distillate from Society distillery 68 was additionally matured in an ex-Rivesaltes barrique. Rivesaltes is a sweet wine from the south of France that’s similar to a sweet sherry. This lesser-seen cask type can impart notes of raisins, chocolate and nuts. When combined with spirit you get this hidden gem – reserved just for you…until it’s gone for good - Mads Schmoll, European Content Manager
Tasting Notes
We combined selected eight-year-old casks from this distillery, returning that single malt into various casks to develop further; this is one of those. On the nose, sweet wine took centre stage – with a supporting cast of fresh fig and melon, almond nut brittle and jojoba sun lotion. The palate balanced sweet, juicy cantaloupe melon, key lime pie and apricot frangipane with a scattering of interesting spices – white pepper, cardamom, cumin and coriander. The reduced nose discovered dark chocolate, cranberries and ginger. The palate had sweet cherries, brandy snaps, barley sugar and tropical fruits, with a mouth-drying finish of granny smiths and cinnamon-flavoured chewing gum.
