Tasting Notes
We remarked on the shiny auburn colour as one panellist dreamed of driving an original Porsche 911, complete with leather upholstery, wooden dashboard and steering wheel with aluminium poles. The taste came as a slight surprise, dark - but not pitch black - like Pontefract cake with hints of tar and ash. We felt even more startled after the addition of water. One comment was “wacky” while another described it as “baby back ribs with a chocolate barbeque sauce”. On the palate a grape salsa emerged which was sweet and savoury with just a hint of spice – most unusual. Following nine years in an ex-bourbon hogshead, we transferred this whisky into a 1st fill American oak PX hogshead.
