Bandages and Sudocreme pounced on us at first nosing. A flotilla of black olives bobbed its way around the jetty. Then smoked olive oil jostled in a martini shaker with dirty martini juice leftovers and raw seawater. A muddle of frying pancetta drippings, baled hay on its way to becoming silage and muddy fishing wellies brimming with herb-infused peat embers. Weird and wonderful! Water brought out smoked pineapple, exotic fruits charred on a BBQ and preserved lemons. The neat palate possessed a startlingly bone-dry and brittle peat smoke at first. Also wood ashes, metal polish, engine oils and pickling brine. Reduction brought mysterious medicines, mineral salts, petrol, olive tapenade and fermenting mouthwash. Pork scratchings cured in a malting kiln. Mental!
