We opened a bag of Thai sweet chilli almonds, cashew nuts and chickpeas as we baked kumquat pistachio brown butter tea cakes. Lots of sweetness on the palate neat, now the almonds were sugar coated or honey roasted, next to golden syrup flapjacks, Indian sweet mango chutney and shredded wheat biscuits soaked in milk topped with banana slices, almonds and cinnamon. After a little water we enjoyed the crisp, dry scent of a freshly ironed newspaper which was delivered to read with our breakfast next to a glass of peaches ’n mint juice, a refreshing combination of cubed peaches, sliced apple, lime and mint sprigs.
