Tasting Notes
The nose was immediately appealing, with creamy vanilla, melted butter and bananas. It was heady, sweet and malty with perhaps the slightest suggestion of woodsmoke and char. We inhaled the freshness of spearmint and clean macrame woven wool. The first taste was unexpected considering the nose - dried spices and liquorice with a nutty aftertaste (nougat, nut brittle toffee). Water awakened citrus notes in the form of lemon candy, lemon meringue pie and lemon curd. We also found buttery pastry and darker notes of treacle and coffee grounds coming through. "Go easy with water", advised one panellist. Gingerbread, cloves and cinnamon sticks, give way to more-ish sherbet lemons, which leave a pleasing tingle on the finish.
