Tasting Notes

The rather dry nose evoked hessian sacks and cigar boxes, nutmeg, ginger, and charred wood; also, currants, chardonnay, and butterscotch sweets. The palate offered golden raisins, orange peel and stewed red fruits, chocolate, and caramel – with a finish of white pepper, Fernet Branca and struck match. The reduced nose contained intriguingly sweet and dry aromatics – sloe gin and Muscat wine, candied rose petals and orange oil, pink peppercorns, marzipan, and toasted oak. Slight struck match again on the palate, but far from off-putting – pleasantly complemented by jam tarts, pastel de nata and parkin; the finish – heather, leather, liquorice, and bramble wine.
