Tasting Notes
A sparkler fizzed in the darkness, illuminating dates, fig rolls and chocolate truffles obscured in the shadow of leather-bound books and heavy walnut cake. Loose-leaf tea and strawberry liqueur then blended with Spanish brandy and coffee to create an intense and brooding concoction. The palate, meanwhile, turned deeper. Fizzy apple juice now met coal dust, liquorice and caramelised sugar within a brooding cloud of cocoa powder. A drop of water revealed the hush of a church library, candied chestnuts tumbling in a sea of melted butter against the rows of old books. The finish lured us to delve further, as flickering candlelight danced over chocolate orange, marmalade, and rum and raisin ice cream.
