An immensely deep and sumptuously inviting aroma that displayed orange oils, mahogany shavings, cream sherry, bacon jam, treacle tart, fruity black coffee and medicinal herbal toothpastes. A stunning assembly of old-style, intricate, sherried qualities we all agreed. With water we got cocoa, bitter herbal ointments, hardwood extracts, medicinal roots, old hessian sackcloth and dark fruit teas. The palate was initially wonderfully mentholated, richly spiced and simmering with toasty wood embers, strong espresso, salted liquorice, rancio, truffle oils, natural tar extract and umami sauce. Reduction brought more elegant and subtle qualities such as sandalwood, wild strawberry, game meats, long aged Rioja wines, wintergreen, damson preserve and green walnut liqueur. Stunning! Matured for 21 years in a bourbon hogshead before being transferred to a first fill Spanish oak PX hogshead.
