A lovely fruity sweet aroma greeted the panel, apricots, peaches, pears as well as cherry menthol lozenges and Parma violets. On the palate neat, a light, fresh, sweet and fruity Mirabelle schnapps made from fully ripe Mirabelle yellow plums and arepa di pampuna (traditional pumpkin pancakes from Curacao). The addition of water released the scent of freshly cut grass before strawberry jam simmering for hours, as we prepared a traditional fruit cake with white almond marzipan. The mouthfeel now silky, juicy with a little spice reminded one panellist of roasted blueberry crostini with za’atar honey and walnuts.
