We imagined getting our brand-new leather walking boots out of the box with the plan to break them in that afternoon walking through a pine forest. It was a warm day as we made a stop at a clearing where we enjoyed blackcurrant cordial as well as sticky and sweet toffee cupcakes with freshly picked blackberries. After a drop of water, a bag of mixed nuts, slices of orange and clementine made the rounds and we completely forgot our initial aim, just sitting there enjoying the moment in the late afternoon sun. After five years in a first fill ex-bourbon barrel, we transferred this whisky into a first fill Spanish oak oloroso hogshead.
