Tasting Notes
The nose opened with a wonderfully fat, syrupy waxiness. Pure, old-school Highland-style malt whisky. Mineral oils, citrus jellies, crushed nettles, gorse, hessian, clove oil, light medical embrocations and gauze. Wonderfully aromatic, dense and complex. Water brings out wintergreen, myrtle, flint smoke, chalk, beach pebbles, lamp oil and paraffin-soaked hessian. The mouth when neat displayed wonderfully easy notes of sunflower oil, furniture wax, camphor, Juicy Fruit chewing gum, banana chips, sultanas, aged yellow herbal liqueurs, heather honey and very mature sauternes. With reduction we found it became thrillingly complex and intricate. Dry earthiness, lemon powder, wax jacket grease, soot, wine cellar must, camphor and a kiss of brine in the aftertaste.
