The fragrant citrus scent of green pine needles lingered in the air as raindrops splashed from bracken and trickled down the deep grooves in sap-covered tree bark. From a beehive came notes of rich honey and hard toffee with thick beeswax and the dry spice of weathered wood. As water filtered into our glasses it released gentle spice that formed a light mist of sandalwood incense, nutmeg and cinnamon stick. Pinecones fell from above and bounced off a soft landing of thick heather, the perfumed fragrance from which merged with balsa wood and the creamy textures of vanilla custard.
