Sip manzanilla in an orange grove

On the nose, orange groves and bales of straw were outgunned by the sweetness of lemon drizzle cake, blueberry muffins and banana chips. Some of that echoed on to the palate – lemon puffs and banana bread – but other impressions arrived: coffee cake, tea leaves, perfumed liquorice and grappa. The reduced nose uncovered toasted almonds, orange zest and manzanilla, toffee, tinned pears and subtle hints of smoke. To taste, we now discovered stewed apples with clove, honey on a stave, cough mixture and biting a leather glove. After five years in ex-bourbon wood, we moved this into a refill American oak PX hogshead.
