One of the panellists, not that he was that old, was reminded of Victorian cough mixture while others described the aroma as charred ginger, liquorice, cigar ash and a smoky PX vibe. On the palate neat we found sweet smoky prune juice with a spicy kick in the finish alongside singed rosemary, roasted red peppers and treacle toffee. Following the addition of water, the scent was that of hickory smoke, smoked mackerel, dill pickle and saltwater taffy. The taste had a sweet, ashy and grubby feel about it with more intense spice and smoke and a drying mouthfeel like smoking a cigar with Sumatra wrappers.
