Tasting Notes
Briny, that was the common denominator on the neat nose, next to thick peat smoke. We got tinned tuna, gherkins, olives, creosote, tar, antiseptic, metal polish ... you name it, we managed to find it in this sample. The taste felt like a whole packet of menthol cigarettes was burning as we tried to douse the fire with smoky pickleback shots. Following reduction, we got a bag of fish and chips wrapped in yesterday’s newspaper and splashed with oil and vinegar next to salty, smoky, sweet popcorn. On the palate – a little restrained, if that was possible – we found freshly tarred roads, dried seaweed, salty peanuts and, in the finish, smoky wasabi.
