Spice oddity

At ground control, amid the earthy tones of bramble leaves, redcurrants and clover, we tucked into stroopwafels and liquorice sticks as the countdown began. The palate ignited the soul, like a blast from a space rocket’s thrusters, before sweet chilli and Szechuan peppers landed on stewed rhubarb, hibiscus tea and sweet biscuits. Water launched us further into orbit as apple skins, chocolate-coated hazelnuts and fruit syrup collided with fennel seed stars and bubblegum asteroids. A meteor shower of fizzy sherbet sweets crackled as it stuck to orange slices dipped in golden syrup, before cinnamon on intergalactic peaches launched us into hyperspace.
