Tasting Notes
The nose gave us crunchy nut cornflakes, a dark chocolate-coated cereal bar with cranberries, a caramel log, toasted marshmallows, potpourri and new tweed. On the palate, spun sugar, maple syrup and sherbet straws balanced sharp fruits (damson, blackcurrant and peach), before a spicy finish of pickled ginger, wasabi and liquorice. With water, the nose picked up vanilla, shortbread, cigar boxes and camping in summer (dry grass and canvas). The palate acquired honey-glazed almonds, lemon meringue pie, chocolate-hazelnut spread and chocolate-marshmallow tea cakes – all washed down with black tea. Ten years in ex-bourbon wood preceded further maturation in this second fill oloroso-seasoned STR barrique.
