WHISPERS OF SPRING

THE CREATORS COLLECTION

WHISPERS OF SPRING

Spring is in the air with the new release from The Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s Creators Collection. As Duncan Gorman writes, this quartet of exquisite old whiskies captures the season when life stirs from its slumber, our senses are awakened through light and growth, and we are attuned to appreciate the delicate beauty of these four outstanding whiskies, left to mature to perfection over decades in refill wood.

WHERE THE HEART IS

WHERE THE HEART IS

The Creators Collection is a new series from the Society that showcases the liquid art of whisky making and the visual art of illustration. We have curated some of our oldest and rarest whiskies and collaborated to design beautiful labels to create the ultimate in whisky flights.

This month we’re launching the Homecoming collection in celebration of our 40-year-heritage and spiritual home, The Vaults, with Leith-based artist Shona Hardie bringing these whiskies to life through four special labels. Mads Schmoll caught up with Shona to find out more about The Vaults, Leith’s whisky history and the inspiration behind her artwork.

Whispers of Spring Collection

Whispers of Spring: A journey of reawakening, the Society’s new Creators Collection, captures the subtle yet powerful energy of the season.

Each of the four bottles in the collection is designed to take you on a sensory journey, offering a unique take on traditional flavours. These casks have been left to mature to perfection over decades in refill wood. The result is a story of transformation and renewal that’s focussed on distinctive character rather than distillery history.

“Sometimes it’s fun to explore the technical and process side of whisky, and sometimes it’s best to let the whisky take you to a time and place and simply revel in sheer enjoyment,” he says. “Our Whispers of Spring bottles do just that. These whiskies present you with fresh floral aromas, juicy fruits and green shoots. They all carry significant age statements and are perfect contemplative drams, to enjoy while considering the year ahead and what spring renewal will bring.”

The Homecoming Collection

Homecoming: the essence of heritage is the second release from this series. It pairs the liquid art of whisky making with the illustrations of Leith-based artist, Shona Hardie, the artist behind Endless Discoveries, Infinite Adventures in The Vaults. The Homecoming collection is a tribute to the Society’s heritage, celebrating our spiritual home at The Vaults and its place within the history of Leith.

Each of the four bottles in the collection draws on the senses, connecting members to the past while embracing The Vaults in its present and future forms. Every sip is a celebration of tradition, offering a deeper connection with the Society.

“We’re excited to unveil The Creators Collection, a new addition to our tradition of innovative whisky releases. Each new release will explore unique flavour stories with both creative and technical inspiration. Themes will explore subjects such as our traditional home at The Vaults in Leith, the diversity of our peated whiskies, and whisky production techniques and cask maturation. We look forward to sharing these exceptional releases in the near future.”

The "Peat Plants Collection" invites members to explore the diverse landscapes of Scotland through the lens of peated whisky, each bottle representing a different aspect of the natural world that contributes to the unique character of these spirits.

From the floral elegance of "Heather Ember" to the powerful, medicinal punch of "Moss & Mist," this collection offers a sensory journey through the peatlands, unveiling the deep connection between the land and the liquid.
