Cask Intro

Distillery 128 is nestled in the Welsh Brecon Beacons and uses stills that differ from the traditional pot-still norm. The distillery uses a Faraday still that is able to distil at high strength and collect some compounds preferentially - in this case a spirit with a highly fruity, estery profile. This particular spirit started its life in a Tawny port barrique, before being transferred to a bourbon hogshead, another unusual quirk that you may want to investigate!  All in all, this is a tasty, highly unusual and entertaining whisky to explore. - Julien Willems, whisky quality manager

Tasting Notes

Like a fondue restaurant with a difference. We nosed chunks of toffee being dipped in red wine reduction, followed by custard and hedgerow fruit sauce. The palate was just as full bodied as the nose suggested; jammy and saucy, with buttered white toast dunked in butterscotch sauce and topped with a dusting of freeze-dried eucalyptus. Water introduced caraway seeds and honey-roasted parsnips to the nose, while the palate was nutty, with cinnamon-spiced grapes and ripe fig. After nine years in an ex-tawny port barrique, we transferred this to a first fill bourbon hogshead for the remainder of its maturation.
